Demographics
Arunachal Pradesh is not so densely populated so it stands at 1,091,117 inhabitants, which is less compared to the total land area. The total population comprise of tribes and immigrants from various states like West Bengal, Assam, Nagaland and other parts of India. The majority of population follows Hinduism and the rest follow Buddhism. Apart from this, many are followers of Christianity.
Geography
The state lies in the northeastern tip of India. A tranquil land rich in culture and heritage is fenced by Assam to the south and Nagaland to the southeast. The major part of the state is covered by the Himalayas. A part of the Himalayan range extends to the eastern part of the Arunachal thus separating it from China, Bhutan and Myanmar. The five major rivers that make this state a more beautiful land are Subansiri, Kameng, Siang, Lohit and Tirap. The entire stretch of the land is eco-friendly and colorful and you will find it an exotic place.
Climate
The overall stretch of the land has varied elevations, which determine the climate. Those areas at high elevation enjoy an Alpine and Tundra climate. In the lower Himalayas, the climate remains Temperate. Those areas at sea level elevation and the sub-Himalayas experience humid sub-tropical climate. The climate at Arunachal is quite unpredictable and therefore it is difficult to find the best time of the year to visit. Nonetheless, the best time to visit the region remains the months of mid September till mid December and also from mid March to mid June.
Flora and fauna
Arunachal is rich in flora and fauna. The land is blessed with 500 different varieties of orchids. They are all colorful and spectacular. Other plants include Andrographis, Acorus, Rauvolfia, Oroxylum, Rauvolfia, Tinospora, Withania, Panax, Rubia and much more.
The animal kingdom comprises of leopard, tiger, snow leopard and clouded leopard. The varied species of monkeys includes Stumptailed macaque, Assamese macaque, and the smaller varieties like hoolock gibbon, capped langur and slow loris. Besides, you will also find an admirable population of reptiles.
Major attractions
The major places to visit include Tawang, Itanagar, Dirang, Tipi, Bhalukpong, Bomdila, Tezu, Pasighat, Namdhapa and few others. Each place is captivating in terms of both scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage.
Tips
- An Indian tourist should get the Inner Line permit from the Arunachal Government office. A foreign tourist would require the Restricted Area permit for visiting the state. They are allowed to collect the permit from Foreigners Regional Registration Offices, Indian Missions abroad, Chief Immigration Officer, Chennai, Ministry of Home Affairs.
- A cycle rickshaw is apt to get around the various tourist attractions within the city. You will find them in ample numbers.
