Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh is the third largest state in southern India where you can explore modern cities that have grown from the roots of a multi hued past, frolic on a vast array of golden beaches, sport with adventure in style, make a pilgrimage to holy shrine and lure into the fascinating jungle world with wide array of wildlife sanctuaries and parks.

Today this state is on the top in regard to information technology and its capital Hyderabad has metamorphosed into one of the best cities in the country.

Demographics

The census reads the total population figure at 76,210,007 marking it as the fifth most populous state in India. The main ethnic groups of Andhra Pradesh are the Telegu people.  The official language of the state is Telegu, spoken by 84.86% of the population. The state is one of India’s main rice producing areas. Agriculture is believed to be the most important sector of Andhra Pradesh’s economy. It is estimated that about 70% of the population works in Agriculture and earn their livelihood. A handful of tribal communities are widely visible who have contributed to the region with their rich cultural heritage, ethnicity and lifestyle.

Geography

Andhra Pradesh, well known, as the ‘rice bowl of India’ is bordered by Maharastra, Chattisgarh and Orissa in the North, Bay of Bengal in the East, Tamilnadu to the south and Karnataka to the west. Andhra Pradesh can be divided into three regions namely, coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telengana. It can be crossed by several rivers, most importantly, Godavari and Krishna. The main seaport of Andhra Pradesh is Vishakapatnam. Due to its location and proximity to major rail and road routes this state is considered as the major trading center. Nearly, 23% of Andhra Pradesh is covered by forests that yield large variety of timber products.

Climate

Andhra Pradesh is generally hot and humid. The temperature in summer varies between 20 degree Centigrade and 40 degree Centigrade whereas in winter it lies between 13 degree Centigrade and 32 degree Centigrade. The climate of the inland plateau area is generally cooler and dryer than that of the coasts. The typical weather of Andhra Pradesh is dominated by the Southwest monsoons. Adequate rainfall is seen mainly during the monsoon months from July to October. Remember, the best time to visit Andhra Pradesh is between the month of October and February.

Flora and Fauna

The appeal of Andhra Pradesh to wildlife enthusiasts lies in its panoramic palette of flora and fauna. The state is bestowed with lush coastal belt, dry deciduous forests, moist deciduous Eastern Ghats and huge mangrove belts. The fauna of Andhra Pradesh is equally good with many wildlife sanctuaries and well known zoological parks rich in migratory birds, animals and reptiles. India’s largest project Tiger reserve also lies over here.

Major Attractions

Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh is a heady mixture of heritage, hospitality and a thriving software revolution. The Charminar stands as the signature of Hyderabad. This magnificent square edifice of granite is built upon four grand arches facing North, South, East and West. Not only this, this state boasts of various historical places that are visited by great number of tourists every year. The visiting spots include Tirupati, Vijaywada, Vishakapatnam, Warangal and various religious places and hill stations. The pristine clean beaches are famous for beauty and natural enigma.

- Do not miss the light and sound show at Golconda Fort. The unique light and sound is sure to take you right back to its glorious past.
- As a touristy traveler, you should visit Andhra during Ganesha Chaturthi Festival that comes in August.
- Andhra Pradesh is known for the variety of tropical fruits at cheaper prices so do not miss the fruit juices that are available all over Andhra.
- Visiting Araku valley by train can be a lifetime experience as the train crosses 56 tunnels and reaches 996.32mt above MSL at Shimiliguda station – considered the highest Broad Gauge railway station in India.
